An Intimate Backyard Elopement on Porters Lake
There are no words to describe how honoured we are to have been a part of this intimate backyard elopement on Porters Lake. When we first met Paul and Franco, they were total strangers. But each and every minute we spent with them impacted us for a lifetime. They had been through a lot in their previous living situation and were so excited to move back home. All they had to do was wait for their cat Logan’s papers to come through.
Paul and Franco are from Costa Rica, as of right now, it is still not legal to marry someone of the same sex. How heartbreaking it must be to live in a country where your relationship is not recognized by the government. It is way beyond what we can comprehend but we are so happy that we could be there for them in Canada to become Husband and Husband.
Deciding to get married wasn’t something they hadn’t previously considered. Once the question was asked they really began realizing that it was possible to get married in Canada.
Within two or three days they made the decision to get married! They found a Justice of The Peace, got themselves cute little matching outfits, crowed their cat Logan as “flower girl”, purchased some rings and my mother and I (Amber) took care of the rest. We printed photos of them and hung them around the house. Got their favourite food (Mary Browns). Some cupcakes, champagne and downloaded their favourite songs so they could dance under the stars after the sun went down.
What was even more special, was that a mutual friend of theirs from New York managed to snag a last-minute fight into town to be there to celebrate with them. What a lovely surprise that was! Thanks to technology, they were able to live stream the ceremony and facetime with their families after the ceremony.
It was such a beautiful day. So many tears were shed and it was so hard to say goodbye and see you later. However, we are so happy that we were able to help give them the gift of marriage.
